The Government today ordered all liquor shops, which had opened on Monday in non-high risk areas, to close immediately, a statement by the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
The one-line statement did not give any reason for the change in decision. However, long lines were observed outside liquor shops on Monday and concerns were expressed about people failing to follow proper measures needed to minimise the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) and several other organisations had protested the Government’s decision to allow liquor sales to resume.
