Govt. announces easing of curfew from Monday

The Government today said curfew would be lifted for all non-high risk areas from Monday 5am and reimposed at 8pm and will also be lifted in several areas in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara from Wednesday.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) releasing a statement today said the areas of Kotahena, Grandpass, Bambalapitiya, Keselwatta, Maradana, Gothatuwa, Mulleriyawa, Wallampitiya, Mt. Lavinia, Dehiwala and Kohuwala in the Colombo District would remain under curfew. In Gampaha, Je-Ela, Kochchikade and Seeduwa will remain under curfew as well as Puttalam, Marawila and Wennapuwa in the Puttalam District. In the Kalutara District Bandaragama, Payagala, Beruwala and Aluthgama Police areas will remain under curfew. In all other areas curfew will be lifted at 5am on 22 April and reimposed at 8pm. The statement said curfew would be imposed every night until further notice. Despite easing of curfew the public has been urged to only travel for work and other essential tasks and to refrain from leisure or other forms of travel. Travel between districts is also discouraged unless for work, especially between the high risk areas. Villages and towns that have been placed under lockdown will remain so with travel into or out of those areas strictly prohibited.
