The Police arrested 508 persons who violated curfew regulations and took into custody 125 vehicles used by them in a 24-hour period ending at 6 a.m. today.
The number of curfew violators has reduced significantly from 809 arrested the day before.
According to the Police Media Unit, the figure brings the total arrested for curfew violations since 20 March to 7,358 with the number of vehicles detained rising to 1,768.
The Government deployed members of the armed forces to assist the Police in enforcing curfew regulations last weekend due to a surge in offenders and those who misused curfew permits. Curfew regulations are strictly enforced island-wide with only essential services allowed to move goods and staff during the curfew.
