Due to corporate, individual donations, the President’s COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund balance has surpassed Rs. 609 million, President Media Division said.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa established the COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund on 23 March to support the effort to contain COVID-19 virus.
Accordingly, Vietnamese American Unified Buddhist Congress President Ven. Thich Vien Ly Thero has donated $ 15,000 to the Fund, responding to a request made by Los Angeles Buddhist Vihara Chief Incumbent, Inter-Religious Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka and United States of America and Canada Chief Sangha Agga Maha Panditha Ven. Dr. Walpola Piyananda Thero.
Ven. Dr. Walpola Piyananda Thero handed over the donation to Additional Secretary to the President on Foreign Relations Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage, PMD said.
According to PMD, all the donations will be credited to a special account opened under the number 85737373 at the Corporate Branch of the Bank of Ceylon.
Donations to COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund has been exempted from taxes and foreign exchange regulations. Deposits can be made through cheques or telegraphic transfers.
