The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) today issued guidelines for all airlines, doubling the maximum passenger transit time at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

The CAASL also invited airlines to service all airports in the country upon lifting COVID-19 restrictions. Accordingly, the CAASL has informed all airlines that the maximum permitted transit time at BIA for any passenger transiting via BIA should strictly be not more than 12 hours and the concerned passenger must strictly have a confirmed onward connection out of BIA to an onward destination.

On 17 March, the CAASL said six hours was the maximum transit time at BIA.

In addition, the CAASL said that the Government of Sri Lanka invites all airlines to service Sri Lanka Airports BIA, Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), Jaffna International Airport (JIA) and Ratmalana International Airport (RIA) upon lifting of the restrictions.

Issuing a statement, the CAASL thereby called on the respective airlines to communicate the same to their head offices.

All other previous instructions issued by the CAASL which are not amended by the above will continue to be applicable.
