Sixteen COVID-19 patients were discharged following recovery today, bringing the total number of recoveries in the island to 620.
Today’s recoveries include seven from the Navy Hospital, four from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), three from the Colombo East Base Hospital, and two from the Welikanda Base Hospital.
The number of patients currently receiving treatment is 426, of which 123 are at the Navy Hospital, 80 are at the NIID, 50 are at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 48 are at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, and 37 are at the Homagama Base Hospital.
The Epidemiology Unit also stated that 36 patients are at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 28 are at the Kattankudy Base Hospital, and 19 are at the Iranawila Hospital. Five patients are in the process of being sent to a treatment facility.
The number of active patients include 27 new patients identified during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today. While all 27 were identified through active surveillance in the community, eight were asymptomatic.
This has increased the number of patients identified since 22 April to 747 and 632 of them are Navy personnel and their close contacts.
The total number of confirmed cases in the country is 1,055, of which 596 are Navy personal. The Epidemiology Unit states that 68 persons among local communities at quarantine centres and 66 among overseas arrivals at quarantine centres have also tested positive.
In addition to this, 110 suspect patients are under investigation at several hospitals, including 35 at the Navy Hospital.
The Health Promotion Bureau also states that 49,124 PCR tests have been carried out so far, including 1,603 PCR tests yesterday.
