Police has arrested 1,724 persons who violated curfew regulations and detained 496 vehicles used by them in a 24-hour period ending at 6 a.m. today.

The number of curfew violators has not significantly changed from 1,815 from the preceding 24 hours, in-spite of calls for the public to act more responsibly and adhere to curfew regulations during this national crisis.

According to the Police Media Unit, 19,441 persons who violated the curfew and 5,082 vehicles used by them have been taken in to custody since curfew regulations came into effect on 20 March. Legal action will be taken against the violators and their vehicles may be detained for the duration of the curfew, the Police said in a press release.
