Tea auction this week

This week’s offering totaling 6.5 m kgs Ex-estate met with good demand at irregular rates.

BOPS sold on average around last week’s levels however, a few select best invoices of western BOPS sold dearer to last. BOPFs witnessed a lower trend losing Rs. 5-10 per kg.CTC varieties were mostly lower except for below best Low Grown PF1S which moved up marginally.

Low Growns comprising approximately 3.2 m kgs met with good demand. Select best BOP1s met with good demand and a few invoice reaching Rs.700 per kg lower. However PEKS, especially the bolder types, declined from last week’s levels and more towards the close of the sale. PEK1S met with strong demand.

Best OPAS /OPS continued to sell between Rs. 500-530 levels. The small leaf varieties met with strong demand than the leafy varieties where FBOP/FF1S sold at dearer levels. Very Tippy teas maintained last week’s levels.

The second sale for the year continued to maintain good demand however, the lower quality all round was witnessed in the Ex-estate and the Low Grown catalogues, good teas continued to sell well.

A salient feature in the next sale would be a quantity of over seven m kgs being catalogued per sale. As such it will be interesting to note the demand that would prevail in the next two auctions.
