Sithaka, Kenilworth and Uva highlands establish three all-time record tea prices

Three all-time record prices were established by John Keells PLC at the Tea Auctions on 19 and 21 August 2013 for OP1, OP & BOPF grades. Sithaka / Avissawella tea factory has established yet another all-time record price at this week’s tea auction by securing an attractive price of Rs. 1000 per kg, for a low grown OP1 grade selling under the “Sithaka” mark. This is the first time that any low grown leafy grade has surpassed the elusive Rs. 1000 level at the weekly tea auction. Avissawella Tea Factory is situated in the Ratnapura district, Sabaragamuwa Province and Lalith Liyanage is the proprietor of this state of the art modern tea factory. Kenilworth Estate, situated in Ginigathhena, has established an all-time record price at the weekly tea auction by securing an attractive price of Rs. 720 per kg. for a liquoring OP  grade. This price has surpassed the previous record of Rs. 630 which was established by the same estate in July this year. This line of tea was purchased by M/s Adam Expo. Kenilworth is renowned for high quality pure orthodox teas, possessing delicate liquoring characteristics. Kenilworth Estate is managed by Watawala Plantations PLC. With the onset of the Uva quality season, Uva Highlands estate established an all-time record price of Rs. 1000 per kg, for a liquoring BOPF grade at the weekly tea auction held on 14 August 2013. This record was further improved on by them this week by establishing a new record of Rs. 1150 per kg. This line of tea was purchased by M/s Anverally and sons. Uva Highlands estate is managed by M/s Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC.
