Serendib Flour Mills Ltd (SFML), manufacturers of the ‘Seven Star’ brand of wheat flour was recently awarded the ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety System Certification by the Bureau Veritas, India.
This was in recognition of its total compliance with the required international norms and conventions.
The ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety System Certification is the highest and most recognised food-related certification in the world, and, brings SFML the stamp of international approval a little after three years of operations in Sri Lanka.
“This certification is an international endorsement of the quality and success of our operations in Sri Lanka. It is not only an achievement for the Company but also for the thousands our Sri Lankan and overseas customers who enjoy the purity and nourishment of our Seven Star wheat flour,” SFML Director and CEO Sathak Abdul Kadar said.
A subsidiary of the Al-Ghurair Group of Dubai, UAE, SFML is an approximately USD 56.00 million BOI flagship project and is in the business of wheat based flour milling with a capacity of 1000 MT per day at its state of the art mill located at the Prince Vijaya Quay in the Colombo Port.
SFML also currently exports across many Far Eastern and African countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, North Africa, the Maldives and Vietnam with more in the pipeline.
SFML has already established and documented the Integrated Management System. The Implementation and maintenance is currently in-process. Integrated Management System (IMS) meets with the requirements of the four International standards ie: (ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 22000:2005 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007) and SFML will endeavour to continually improve the system.
The ISO 9001 is the foundation for the Quality Management System. The adoption of ISO 9001 ensures a strong foundation for well established processes and a Quality Management System that supports continual improvement, business growth and efficiency.
The ISO 14001 is a standard for the environmental management elements of the Integrated Management System while the ISO 22000 is the foundation for the Food Safety Management System.
The BS OHSAS 18001 is a standard for the Occupational Health and Safety Management elements of the Integrated Management System. The addition of BS OHSAS 18001:2007 provides a framework for conducting business in an atmosphere which is safe from the point of view of occupational health and safety.
Last Christmas SFML entered Sri Lanka’s retail market with the launch of four of its variants. Consumers throughout the country can now avail themselves of the wholesome nourishment of SFML’s Household Wheat Flour, Wholemeal Flour and Atta Flour in 01kg packs, and, Semolina in a 500g pack.
