Rs. 17 m worth new paddy stores open in Trinco

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa declared opened paddy stores in Nelsonpura in Trincomalee District on 29 February 2012.

The ‘Reawakening of the East’ project under the Ministry of Economic Development has provided funding to build six paddy stores in Nelsonpura and Jamaliya in Trincomalee District.

During the harvesting farmers face lot of difficulties and hardship such as continuous raining during the harvesting time, price variation and price drop for paddy, influence of traders, and lack of facilities to make value added of paddy.

The Government has built these paddy stores to overcome these problems faced by farmers. The cost of construction of the paddy stores was Rs. 16.9 million. Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Eastern Province Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama and Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Susantha Punchinilame also participated.
