A line of Orange Pekoe (OP1) was sold at Rs. 560 per kg, under the Inverness selling mark of Nuwara Eliya Estate at last week’s tea auction.
This is a new record for a Western High Grown OP1 and the previous record was also held by Inverness. Nuwara Eliya Estate is part of Kelani Valley Plantations Ltd., a subsidiary of Dipped Products Ltd.
Meanwhile, Oodoowerre Estate in Demodara improved its own record for an Uva High Grown OP/OPA by selling an invoice at Rs. 510 per kg. Oodoowerre Estate which makes a range of attractive specialty grades is also known for its rare Silver Tip teas.
The estate is a part of Hapugastenne Plantations Ltd., a subsidiary of James Finlay Ltd. Buyer of both record breaking teas was Unitrades Ltd. and these invoices were sold at the public auction by Asia Siyaka Commodities Ltd.
