An invoice of New Peacock PF1 equalled an all time Colombo Tea Auction Record Price of Rs. 530 per kilogram for a CTC Medium tea at this week’s ex-estate sale. This tea was keenly competed for by the top-end liquoring buyers and was finally sold to Lipton Ceylon Ltd. of the Unilever Group. New Peacock is managed by Elpitiya Plantations PLC and the broker handling this sale was Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. This factory has recently undergone a process of modernisation following which the standard of manufacture and product quality has seen a vast improvement. The estate itself is run as a model property with the best agricultural practices being closely followed by the incumbent Manager Senarath Pahathkumbura who himself has over 40 years experience as a planter. This prestigious estate has always been under the charge of eminent planters of the calibre of the late General Ranjan Wijeratne and the current CEO of Watawala Plantations PLC Dr. Dan Seevaratnam.
