Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake recently inspected the Coconut Cultivation Board at Battaramulla, which is under his purview. He inspected the progress of the institute and discussed the issues of the employees.
Addressing the gathering the Minister said the coconut sector had been transformed into a sector which could bring more foreign currency to the country. “Therefore we have to improve the quality of this product. We have a very big responsibility to uplift this sector. We intend to increase the coconut productivity from 3,000 million to 3,600 million during this year,” he noted.
Coconut Cultivation Board Chairman Kapila Yakandawala, Acting General Manager K. D. L. Dharmasiri and other officials also participated at this occasion.
