National Farmers’ Week opens to mark centenary of Agricultural Research Institute at Gannoruwa

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on Friday kicked off the National Farmers Week 2012 at the Agricultural Research Institute at Gannoruwa. The Agriculture Department celebrates its centenary this year and the National Farmers’ Week 2012 is on until 25 July under the theme ‘Hunger Free Proud Century’.

Over 300 stalls are showcasing new agriculture products and technology on the 80 acre-spanning ARI complex at Gannoruwa. Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake, Deputy Minister of Transport Rohana Dissanayake also participated at the opening
