An invoice of Mooloya FBOP was sold at an all-time Colombo Tea Auction record price of Rs. 560 per kg at the sale conducted on 12 and 13 March. The teas were purchased by Commercial Export Company was sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd.

Mooloya factory is located east of Nuwara Eliya on the Uda Pussellawa mountain range, which enjoys both quality seasons. The colder temperatures of the first quarter of the year help in the manufacture of teas with a nice rosy character coupled with bright infusions. The tea sold this week at this record price not only had such liquoring properties but also had a neat and even structured leaf style.

This factory is managed by Pussellawa Plantations Ltd., which has invested heavily in agricultural inputs, thus ensuring a good quality standard of green leaf for manufacture, which indeed is a prerequisite for good manufacture. The factory too is known to follow good manufacturing standards at every stage in the process of manufacture, and teas from this estate are now widely supported by buyers for the discerning European markets as well as niche markets in Japan.
