At this week’s Ex Estate Tea Auction, an invoice of PF1 of Abbotsleigh Estate, selling under the mark ‘Florence’, secured an all-time Colombo Tea Auction record price of Rs. 610.
This tea was purchased by Jafferjee & Sons amidst stiff competition from three other buyers - Lipton, Uniworld and Vintage Teas - and was sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd.
Abbotsleigh Factory produces some of the best Ceylon CTC High Grown teas and, following the quality drive initiated by estate manager Zavavi Odayar, the prices for the main grades of this factory have topped the Colombo Auctions in recent weeks. In fact, this factory achieved a record price of Rs. 600 for the PF1 grade at last week’s auction, which was beaten this week. This estate is managed by Watawala Plantations Plc and is the current market leader in terms of product quality for high grown CTC teas.
