St. James teas continued its record-breaking trend this Eastern Quality Season with invoices of Pekoe1 grade achieving Rs. 1,500 per kg and Rs. 1,450 per kg, which improves its own record of Rs. 1,350 for Uva Mid Grown PEK1 set at last week’s auction.
Teas were purchased by Anverally & Sons Ltd. St. James also achieved a new record for the BOPF grade by realising a price of Rs. 1,200 per kg, significantly higher than the previous record of Rs. 900 per kg. This tea was purchased by May Company Ceylon Ltd.
St. James teas are made at Dickwella Estate, Hali Ella, which is part of Malwatte Valley Plantations Plc. Asia Siyaka Commodities Plc was the broker for this transaction.
