The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou, China together with the Ceylon Kitul Institute (CKI) of Sri Lanka organised a workshop on kitul honey and kitul products on 8 September alongside the Food and Hospitality Trade Fair (FHW) which was held from 8-10 September in Guangzhou, China.
Consul General Shanika Dissanayake and Ceylon Kitul Institute CEO Tilak Perera addressed a gathering of Chinese retailers, distributors and importers of food products and food and beverage agents at the workshop to explain the benefits of using Kitul honey which is known to have the nutrient Inositol, which prevents the accumulation of fat and cholesterol in the liver.
Kitul honey, which is extracted from the sap of the kitul flower, has been proven to be superior to other sweeteners such as brown sugar.
Following the question and answer interactive session, participants were able to sample the kitul products. The feedback received on taste, flavour and packaging was extremely encouraging.
Workshops promoting Sri Lankan products in southern China are regularly carried out by the consulate in order to encourage Cantonese people to import Sri Lankan products into China.
