Farmers’ Federation commends Govt.’s decision to provide fertiliser instead of money

The All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation has commended the decision taken by the Government to terminate the subsidy provided for the farmers to buy fertiliser in the future, and return to the old way of providing required fertiliser directly to the farmers.

All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation National Organiser Namal Karunaratne, holding a special press conference in Dambulla, said the Federation appreciates the Government’s decision to provide the fertiliser again instead of the money.

He further said the farmers’ organisations continually requested the Government to make the change and they appreciate the Government implementing their request as they expected.

Expressing support and appreciation to the Government, Karunaratne said that the farmers’ dignity is preserved without being subjected to any revenge.However, Karunaratne noted that the prices of fertilisers are still not published by the Government, and said that the price of fertiliser should be informed to the farmers immediately.
