Ellawala Horticulture Ltd, the gold award-winning entrepreneur of the Anuradhapura District in 2018, made history again by claiming three coveted awards at the Mahaweli Entrepreneurship Presidential Awards 2019 held at the BMICH recently, with former President Maithripala Sirisena in attendance as the event’s Chief Guest.

The company earned awards for being the Best Mahaweli Agro Entrepreneur, Extra Large Category; the runner-up in the Mahaweli Entrepreneur with Highest Productivity in Land Use/Planning category and the second runner-up in the Best Mahaweli Entrepreneur Overall Competition. Director Suresh Ellawala and Manager I.G.W. Bandara collected the awards on behalf of Ellawala Horticulture.

Tom EJC, the mango variety invented by Ellawala Horticulture Chairman Tom Ellawala, has proved that invention is the shortcut to conquer the world by securing high demand in the local and international market. The company provides technical knowhow, specific planting materials and training to farmers growing Tom TJC.

Ellawala Horticulture goes one step further to purchase the crop harvest from the farmers. Tom TJC cultivation targets the foreign market to bring in high income. Ellawala Horticulture, located at Galkiriyagama, Mahaweli in the Huruluwewa zone, has a mango-related product manufacturing plant which renders a great service to mango farmers.  Commenting on the receipt of the three awards, Ellawala stated that the fertilised soil of the Mahaweli zone irrigated by the waters of the Mahaweli was the reason for their success. He expressed his gratitude to all Ellawala Horticulture staff who worked tirelessly to make this feat possible.
