A delegation from the dairy sector in the Netherlands will be visiting Sri Lanka during the period of 14 to 17 January. The delegation will include companies specialising in storage of feed, processing and cooling equipment, technology consultation, agricultural machinery and vocational training and education.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka is organising this visit in collaboration with Ceylon Chamber of Commerce as a part of the Embassy’s efforts to facilitate sustainable relationships between the Sri Lankan and the Dutch private sector. The main focus of the mission is to enhance Dutch engagement within the dairy sector in Sri Lanka, transferring bilateral knowledge, know-how and facilitating B2B matchmaking.
During the mission, the delegation will pay field visits to Hatton and Nuwara Eliya to meet with provincial dairy farmers. Meetings will be held at Hillside Inn Hatton and Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya on 15 and 16 January with the participation of prominent dairy farmers in the area.
Dairy production, ‘from grass to glass’, is a complex chain of activities that needs an integrated approach. It is expected that the Dutch experience could provide a very useful and relevant input for the Sri Lankan dairy sector. Many Dutch farms are still family based and middle sized. Like in Sri Lanka, family farming has been the backbone of the dairy industry in the Netherlands. This makes the Netherlands an ideal partner to contribute to the further development of the dairy sector in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka and the Netherlands have a history of working together in the dairy sector. Dairy cooperation goes back some 40 years and many Sri Lankan professionals have been trained in The Netherlands. In the past the focus was on development cooperation and knowledge exchange. Today the Dutch focus on building and strengthening economic ties.
