Over 180 local and international food processing and packaging companies came together recently to showcase a complete food supply chain at the much awaited Profoods/Propack 2010 Exhibition.
The event was jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association and Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services. The trade show provided a platform which developed the sector through enhancement of the standards and sharing the experiences with local and foreign players of the industry.
Popularly known as Sri Lanka’s most influential food and beverage industry exhibition, the event attracted more than 16,000 visitors making it one of the best trade related exhibitions in Sri Lanka. The exhibition also hosted a number of programmes such as bringing a whole new experience of a complete grocery store to its consumers and visitors.
One of the most exciting events was the ‘Cooking Studio’ that showcased live demonstrations of new recipes from Chef Don Gamunu. Many housewives and cooking enthusiasts gathered in their numbers at the BMICH to learn new recipes and preparation methods.
Profoods/Propack 2010 showcased the latest products in the local processed food industry, consumers were given the opportunity of sampling consumer favourites, new innovations and technology development in packaging, newest agricultural machinery and services, processed food hygiene education and many more. The event also accommodated for food and beverage companies to launch their latest products and services targeting the consumer markets.
Special attractions at the exhibition were the 30 member strong Indian delegation which comprised of 20 stalls. A special pavilion was also dedicated to the small and medium scale industry setup by the Ministry of Industries and Commerce. The pavilion promoted small and medium scale companies from rural areas to promote their products and services.
At the end of the exhibition, special awards were distributed to winners and runners up for their valuable participation at Profoods/Propack. The awards night was held on 21 August 2010 on a grand scale and winners were selected by a panel of prominent industry judges.
Due to the large number of visitors to the exhibition the organising committee is now considering to extend the exhibition for four days in 2011, Profoods/Propack will be held from 26 August 2011. With an aim of attracting over 300 participants (stalls) with 50 international stalls, Profoods/Propack 2011 exhibition will be launched in November 2010.
