‘Enginaeru Horawa’ IESL radio program for students

‘Enginaeru Horawa,’ a radio program specially meant for public awareness on engineers’ role in society and for guidance to students (and parents)  aspiring for higher education in engineering will be broadcast from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. every Saturday, starting from 25 August on SLBC Sinhala Commercial Service (94.5 FM).

It is prepared and presented by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), the apex body for engineers in the country with more than a century-old history of commitment to advancing the science and practice of engineering in the country. 

IESL is the sole authority in the country for conferring ‘Chartered Engineer’ and ‘International Professional Engineer’ positions, which are awarded after stringent professional reviews. 

IESL accredited engineering degree programs are recognised by Washington Accord signatory bodies as substantially equivalent to four-year engineering degree programs awarded in their own countries.  Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, UK, USA are among the 20 Washington Accord Signatory countries.

The ‘Enginaeru Horawa’ program will disseminate information and knowledge to make audiences aware of the engineering behind simple every day conveniences that make life easy for them, as well as the major infrastructure projects.

Higher education for children is central to every parent’s worries and the program would be a relief to them as a reliable source for advice and guidance on engineering higher education pathways for their children.

The program is expected to fulfill a long felt need for ready access by people to expert advice on engineering issues, similar to those available through healthcare and culinary programs via radio and television. Its utility value in day-to-day life of people is expected to attract audiences, island wide, to engage in live interactions with some of the most competent engineers in the country. IESL has more than 5,000 Chartered Engineers belonging to all engineering disciplines among its over 20,000 strong membership. 

Starting with the theme of engineering education and profession, the focus will fall upon other current issues in future programs. The islandwide audience that ‘Enginaeru Horawa’ will attract is an ideal opportunity for advertisers to make use of, for exposure of their products and services. Long-term sustainability of the program is thus expected from sponsorships from organisations wanting to make use of those benefits.
