The National Movement for Consumer Rights’ Protection (NMCRP) yesterday requested the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to convert its 1977 hotline number to a direct line to facilitate consumer complaints.

NMCRP President Ranjith Vithana said the existing 1977 hotline was an automated telephone system which could only record complaints.

Therefore the NMCRP demanded that the CAA install a direct line where consumers can receive the assistance of an operator. (CG)
