Prestigious FIGO to be staged in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Convention Bureau SLCB announces the staging of International Conference on Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FIGO)  in November this year which is the biggest conference to be held in this year after Hydro Asia which concluded recently. FIGO will bring over 1,000 medical professionals into the country, including world renowned researchers, academicians and speakers. “Sri Lanka has now gained the reputation to be a venue for high profile conferences and we also have other medical international conferences lined up for this year including the 14th  Congress of the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons,” says General Manager of the Bureau Vipula Wanigasekera. “We are thankful to the Sri Lanka College of Gynaecologists especially President of SLCOG Dr. Kapila Gunawardena and Dr. Rohana Haththotuwa one of the past Presidents together with other office bearers and the organising committee  for working hard to bring this event to Sri Lanka.  The SLCB, functioning under the Ministry of Economic Development, will continue its assistance until the event is successfully held in Sri Lanka  thus creating delighted participants, who in this instance are opinion makers having the capacity to generate thousands of tourists to Sri Lanka in the future,” added Wanigasekera. “These are MICE tourists and they represent the up market segments spending at least 3-4 times over average holiday makers apart from their opinion making on the positive things of Sri Lanka. Our efforts to bring such events into Sri Lanka will be intensified in this year to reap maximum benefits of this segment of tourism,” said Wanigasekera FIGO,SAFOG ,SLCOG International conference Colombo will be held jointly with International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists in Collaboration with the SriLanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The conference will take place from 30 October to 2 November at the BMICH. The theme of the conference is ‘Unmet Needs in Women’s Health’ which the contents of this mega event will revolve around. The SLCOG has selected Aitken Spence Conventions and Exhibitions, a member of Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference and Exhibition Organisers to handle the event.
