William Angliss Institute at SLIIT graduates honoured at 2019 graduation

The William Angliss Institute at SLIIT ‘Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management’ students from batches 10, 11 and 12 recently celebrated their graduation in style at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, Malabe.

Sangakkara who delivered a fantastic motivational speech to the graduates. The Guest of Honour Access International Ltd. Chairman Sumal Perera participated in the ceremony by delivering special achievement awards. William Angliss Institute Australia Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Hunt, opened the proceedings with a welcome speech to the 500 proud parents and industry guests.

A total of 120 graduates celebrated their two years of study including reminiscing on many achievements and receiving their well-earned William Angliss Institute Australian qualification – Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management. 

Since the inception of the William Angliss Institute at SLIIT there have been over 500 graduates and 1,200 Australian qualifications awarded for a variety of programs delivered in Sri Lanka. The ceremony gathering witnessed a selected group of students receiving special awards for being the best students in a number of hospitality fields sponsored and awarded by well-respected industry representatives from Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Cinnamon Resort Hotels, Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa, Nestle Lanka PLC and the Hilton Colombo.

Continuing with the celebrations was the presentation of the Chairman’s Award for the Most Outstanding Student. Chairman Errol Weerasinghe awarded the Chairman’s Trophy and Gold Medal to Lihini Thyagi Maria Wimalasuriya (Batch 10), Hiruni Yapa Abeywardena (Batch 11) and Dona Mandri Anuththara Hettiarachchi (Batch 12). 

SLIIT Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Professor Lalith Gamage delivered the congratulatory speech and reminded the graduates to continue to be inspired and always acknowledge the support from parents, family and friends. 

All graduates have now joined the William Angliss Institute ‘global community,’ are a part of the WAI alumni and having a WAI Australian qualification becomes the Graduates’ ‘Passport to the World’. 

The William Angliss Institute at SLIIT delivers hospitality management, commercial cookery, and event management and from mid-2019 the institute will offer patisserie programs. 

Graduates with a William Angliss Institute Australian qualification now have the opportunity to grab excellent employment offerings in Sri Lanka or around the globe or choose to continue to study with possible degree pathway options at the William Angliss Institute, Australia.
