Sri Lanka Convention Bureau organises MICE event in France

Opening ceremony at France MICE promotion 

For the first time, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) in collaboration of the Sri Lanka Embassy in France organised two MICE promotional events in France on 30 September.

An 11-member MICE delegation led by 

Sri Lankan Convention Bureau General Manager Krishantha Fernando with the national carrier, SriLankan Airlines participated.  Over 45 MICE agents, associations, meeting planners attended the event followed by B2B session. 

The MICE Promotion was organised to capitalise the opportunities in France and build momentum to position Sri Lanka as cost effective and attractive destination for global conferences, corporate events and incentive travel.  Europe is a large source market for MICE industry. 

Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain and Italy represent 70% of the European business travel market according to the Global Business Travel Association. Small-scale meetings and incentive travel are the most promising segments.  In this context, France is an important destination for Sri Lanka to promote MICE industry. 

A total of 90% of the participants emphasised the need of connectivity and was inquiring from the SriLankan Airline representatives as to when the direct flights to France resumes.  With the connectivity, it will boost the MICE/tourism industry in Sri Lanka. 

During his opening remarks, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Buddhi Athauda highlighted the importance of building awareness on the MICE industry and General Manager presented the highlights of Sri Lanka’s as a MICE destination and a video clip on SriLankan Airlines and Sri Lankan tourism attractions were played.
