Serendib Hotels celebrated World Tourism Day on 27 September in keeping with this year’s theme, ‘Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all’ by empowering the local community and organising a series of celebratory events for guests at Avani Bentota, Hotel Sigiriya and Club Hotel Dolphin.

Avani Bentota Resort invited students from a local school to create awareness on career opportunities within the hotel industry. The students were given a tour of the property where they were exposed to the working roles in a hotel. The executive chef along with F&B and housekeeping teams conducted a cookery, bed making and towel art demonstration to educate the students on the opportunities available in their respective fields.

During the specialty Sri Lankan dinner buffet and cultural show organised for guests, the team at Avani Bentota Resort showcased a series of videos to highlight the unwavering dedication and commitment of staff members, suppliers and service operators whose livelihoods depend on tourism.

Hotel Sigiriya conducted a community awareness campaign within the local community by educating A/L students and school leavers on the available working opportunities within the hospitality industry and various experiential service offerings that can be extended to travellers in Sigiriya to enhance tourism within the area. The guests at the hotel enjoyed a village tour paving way for the community to offer their valued experiential services.

During the cultural show and street food festival organised at the hotel premises, resident naturalist Kingsly at Hotel Sigiriya showcased the myriad of activities that can be experienced in the vicinity through a photography exhibition which captured historic, architectural, and naturistic attractions.

Club Hotel Dolphin organised a Sri Lankan themed dinner and entertainment for its guests which highlighted the various traditional arts and crafts practiced in the island. The Club Hotel Dolphin team was able to showcase the significance of keeping the traditions alive by allowing guests to experience the activities.

In an effort to uplift tourism within the country and create a better future for all, Serendib Hotels continuously works closely with the locality to uplift the livelihoods of individuals who depend on the services offered at the properties.
