Under the Visiting Journalist Program of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), the popular Japanese luxury magazine Elle Décor arrived in Sri Lanka to explore the country’s architecture, design and travel for a different experience to feature in its pages.

Having over 70,000 monthly Japanese readers, Elle Décor specifically focused on Sri Lankan ‘must visit’ up and coming destinations, architecture and unique interior design. They had been inspired by the creations of legendary architect Geoffrey Bawa and travelled around the island to see his architectural marvels, including the Sri Lankan Parliamentary Complex, Jetwing Light House Hotels, Heritance Kandalama, etc.

According to the magazine’s editor Mika Kowaki, Geoffrey Bawa is well-known within the Japanese community, and this year commemorates the century of his birth. The articles in Elle Décor will be covering his legacy, including the Lunuganga Estate.

This will be another way of expressing the uniqueness of Sri Lanka in different dimensions, and attracting international attention on Sri Lanka’s potential in producing creative architecture.
