Dilip De Silva joins TISC as Administrative Manager

Former SLITHM Chairman and UN/ILO Skills expert, Dilip De Silva has been appointed as the Administrative Manager of Tourism Industry Skills Council (TISC). TISC is the apex body of the tourism sector under Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) which comes under the Ministry of Skills Development, Employment and Vocational Training.

TISC is mandated to analysing tourism skills market, identify skills demands, develop tourism as an industry of choice for employment, quality assurance of tourism training, facilitate delivering of quality tourism training to nation through public private model.

The membership of the Tourism Skills Council consists of, The Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference, Exhibition and Event Organizers (SLAPCEO), The Travel Agents Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL), Chauffeur Tourist Guide Lecturers Association of Sri Lanka (CTGASL), National Tourist Guides Lecturers Association of Sri Lanka (NTGLASL), The Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism (ASMET), Chef Guild of Sri Lanka, and Ceylon Hotel School Graduate Association (CHSGA).

“Having worked in Tourism Skills Councils in Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia and having the opportunity to set up skills councils in China, Vietnam and Bangladesh during my eight years of employment with UN/ILO, I consider it is a great honour for me to return to Sri Lanka after 40 years and serve the tourism sector development initiatives,” opined Silva.

“We are proud and privileged to have De Silva former UN/ILO Skills expert as the Councils Administrative Manager. With his vast international skills, knowledge and network ability, I am very confident that the tourism council can make a significant contribution to uplift skills standards of the workforce,” said Tourism Industry Council Chairman T.M.F. Packeer.
