A crew of senior journalists from China travelled across Sri Lanka to showcase the splendour of our island to the world. In support of reviving the tourism industry the Kingsbury was honoured to host them at The Kingsbury; proving that Sri Lankans are resilient, have bounced back and are welcoming guests from all over the world to give them an experience like no other. These respected opinion leaders of China who went on a nine-day tour of the country, visited The Kingsbury hotel and enjoyed an authentic Szechuan Chinese lunch at the Yue Chuan and met the Hotel’s resident Chinese Chef Hui.

Organised by SriLankan Airlines and Jetwing Travels, this was a very effective initiative to showcase that all the elements that gave Sri Lanka the title of ‘number one destination to visit’, by Lonely Planet, are very much in existence and are waiting to be discovered by the curious and adventurous.

The Kingsbury hotel is fast picking up with many guests coming to patronise it. With a wish to return to normalcy, the hotel management felt that it was their duty to get back on their feet as soon as possible.

“We felt we have a responsibility towards our employees, guests, suppliers, the industry and to the nation whose livelihoods depend on the hotel and that was one of our biggest motivating factors to keep moving forward,” a spokesperson for The Kingsbury said.

Their hashtag #StandingStrongAtKB gained a lot of traction on social media and has encouraged many to visit the hotel. The Ocean, Yue Chuan, CE LA VI, The Gourmet Station and Kings Bar and Honey Beach Club, The Senses Spa and The Laundry are all open for business and have seen an increase in numbers over the last two months. The Kingsbury’s high tea promotion, a favourite among many regulars has also witnessed a pickup.

The Kingsbury’s comprehensive security system uses metal detectors and baggage scanners to ensure safety. The management has taken extra care in specifically training all security personnel on how to interact and carry out security checks on guests in a pleasant and friendly manner to lessen any inconvenience.

The atmosphere at the hotel has been transformed with the recent appointment of industry trailblazer Rohan Karr as Managing Director of the Hayleys Leisure Sector. All employees are re-energised and motivated to serve guests with renewed passion and commitment to excellence, under his astute and brilliant leadership.

With the country’s intelligence doing its very best to maintain security measures to ensure the mitigating of any dangers going forward, there is no doubt that Sri Lanka will restore its familiar position as the most idyllic and diverse holiday destination. Many tourists have returned to explore and experience the magic that this island holds within its sun-kissed locations surrounded by a glistening blue ocean. With the returning normalcy so will the thousands of delighted faces from all over the world.
