Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday told Parliament that the Government would ensure that all those responsible for the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks were brought to justice and assured that all possible measures had been taken to prevent the recurrence of such an unfortunate situation.

In a special statement in Parliament on the day that the country marked the second anniversary of the suicide bomb attacks, the Prime Minister also condoled with the families who lost loved ones in the attacks and wished those suffering physically and mentally due to the attacks a speedy recovery.

Rajapaksa said that the relevant investigation reports had been referred to the Attorney General for legal action. “Though we do not wish to intervene with the judicial process, I wish to state that as a Government we are ready to provide any assistance required for the success of the judicial process. The President has facilitated the CID and the Terrorism Investigation Division in addition to the Commission that investigated the attacks so they can carry out investigations independently.

We are confident that at the end of the investigation, the respective departments will take legal action in the future,” he said.

The Premier said the innocent public of the country have had to pay for the criminal neglect and evasion by the previous Government which mixed up their political agendas with national security.

“Parties responsible for the attack are spreading various lies, influencing investigations, and diverting attention even to-date. We feel sorry for such groups. While remembering all those who died, we as a Government are taking every step to prevent such an unfortunate situation from ever recurring,” the Prime Minister said.
