Sri Lanka wins 3 gold at Asian Grand Prix-2013

Sri Lankan athletes won three gold medals in the third and final leg of Asian Grand Prix-2013 Sunday (12) at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo. High jumper Manjulakumara Wijesekara won the gold in Men’s High Jump event with a noteworthy 2.24m jump and javelin thrower Nadeeka Lakmali won her event with a season’s best 58.41 meters among the women.



It was Lakmali’s second-best ever after her 58.48m national record set in the same venue six years ago. Lekamge Dilhani won the bronze for the same event clearing a distance of 53.67 meters. Maduranga Sachith of Sri Lanka won the silver for the Men’s Javelin Throw.

W.K.L.A. Nimali won the gold in the women’s 800 meter event finishing at 2:05.90. Meanwhile and Kasun Seneviratne won the second place in the Men’s 400 m run finishing at 46.84 sec. Kalinga Kumara and THD Priyashantha tied for the third place at a time of 47.31 sec.

DL Samarajeewa finished third in the Men’s 5000 m race at a time of 14:43.15 min. Sri Lanka finished third in both Men’s and women’s 4x100m relay.

The first leg of this year’s Asian Grand Prix series was held at Thammasat Stadium in the Thai capital of Bangkok on 4 May and the second leg was held at Chonburi in Thailand on 8 May.
