Young athletes continue blistering pace breaking 12 records on day two

88th Sir John Tarbet Senior Schools Athletics Championships 

The second day of the 88th Sir John Tarbet Senior Schools Athletics Championships concluded with talented young athletes breaking 12 records. 

Upon the conclusion of the first and second day of the meet, the boys established eight new records and the girls achieved seven.

At the end of day two for the boys, St. Peter’s College, Negombo steamed ahead with 106 points while for the girls, A. Rathnayaka Central College, Walala have accrued an impressive 124 points.

In second place is Royal College, Colombo with 61 points and Maris Stella College, Negombo with 60 points respectively.

For the girls, Gateway International School Nugegoda in second place have achieved 51 points and in third place are Sumana Balika Vidyalaya Ratnapura 41 points.

Among the boys’ events that concluded on the second day, history was created not only by establishing new meet records but several schools impressively bettered previous records.

The 4x100 metres Under-18 category was a thrilling event creating history with the winning Royal College team establishing a new meet record of 41.88 seconds and second, third and fourth places all surpassing the previous record of 42.94s created by St. Benedict’s College in 2015.

400 metres hurdles Under-20: P.M.P.l. Kodikara (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala) 52.69 seconds. In second place, bettering the previous (bpr) record S.H. Nawodya Sankalpa (Mahinda College, Galle) 53.50 seconds. 

High Jump Under-18: S.T. Amarasinghe (Royal College, Colombo 7) 2.10 meters

Shot Putt Under-16: Ovini Chandrasekara (Bishop’s College, Colombo) 13.15 meters
