Sports Minister moves into action to uplift cricket

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa met with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials, National Sports Council Chairman Mahela Jayawardene and SLC Head Coach Mickey Arthur and has taken the following decisions to uplift the national team’s cricket after their dismal performances losing by 2-0 margins to South Africa and to England and the resignation of Ashantha de Mel as Chief Selector.

The following five decisions were taken at the meeting:

Appoint a new cricket selection committee; Play competitive domestic and provincial cricket tournaments; Priority to be given for discipline and fitness of players; Players’ contracts will be based on performance and a director and mentor to be appointed to assist the Head Coach.
