SLT takes cricket to East

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) was able to take the great game to the Eastern province as the country’s leading telecommunication provider sponsored the first-ever big match between Wesley High School, Kalmunai and Vipulananda Central College, Karaitivu titled ‘Eastern Coastal War.’

A press conference was organised by SLT on 7 March leading up to the big match, providing an opportunity for the respective schools to express their views in what proved to be a significant occasion in the history of both the schools. 

The press conference comprised of RTOM/KL F. Newton Nishanth, Wesley High School, Kalmunai Principal V. Prapakaran, Vipulananda Central College, Karaitivu Principal T. Vithyarajan, Vipulananda Central College team Captain M. Sanjeev, Wesley High School team Captain G. Vinojith.

The big match was played on 12 March at the Vipulananda Central College grounds in Karaitivu and it demonstrated a fine display of bowling from both the teams.

Vipulananda Central College batting first made 137 runs in 28.1 overs following stunning effort from the Wesley bowlers, but Vipulananda then produced an even better performance with the ball as they skittle out Wesley for 91 runs securing a 46-run victory.

SLT had also made arrangements to distribute three special awards for individual performance as Sriskanth (man of the match), Sopithas (best batsman) and Vithusanan (best bowler),

The big match between the two teams was a huge success and it proved to be a highly competitive match attracting a massive crowd.

By supporting such sports events, SLT expects to empower youth to access equal opportunities. SLT always empowers a generation of sporting talent in the country by sponsoring sporting encounters in all parts of the island.
