Royal, Sanghamitta clinch Super A Division titles

All-Island Inter-Schools Under-15 Badminton Team Championships 

Royal College, Colombo and Sanghamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Galle emerged boys’ and girls’ champions respectively of the Super A Division in the All-Island Inter-Schools Under-15 Badminton Team Championships which concluded on a high note on Sunday. 

At the Richmond College Indoor Stadium in Galle, Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa and Sujatha Vidyalaya, Matara secured the runners-up spots in the same group in boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.

Lyceum International, Wattala clinched the A Division boys title while Our Lady of Victories Convent, Moratuwa emerged girls’ team champions in the same division.

Bandaranayake College, Gampaha won the boys’ B Division title as Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda clinched the girls’ crown in the same group.

C Division boys and girls titles were won by Sumedha College, Gampaha and Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda respectively while Lumbini College, Colombo and Princes of Wales’ College, Moratuwa emerged D Division team champions in boys’ and girls’ categories in that order. AS. Siraj Boys College, Kandy and Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena were the winners in E Division.

The four-day championship was organised by Richmond College in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association for the 11th consecutive year. More than 1,800 shuttlers from over 110 schools from around the country took part in the tournament.

Sri Lanka Badminton President Rohan de Silva graced the presentation ceremony as the Chief Guest. Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association (SLSBA) Chairman and Richmond College Principal Sampath Weragoda, SLSBA General Secretary Saman Wijesinghe, SLBA officials and teachers-in-charge of badminton at participating schools were also present.

  • Second Runners-Up: (Boys) St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa and Rahula College, Matara; Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and Musaeus College, Colombo 

A Division:

  • Champions: (Boys) Lyceum International, Wattala; (Girls) Our Lady of Victories Convent, Moratuwa
  • Runners-Up: (Boys) Nalanda College, Colombo; (Girls) Girls High School, Kandy 
  • Second Runners-Up: (Boys) St. Peter’s College, Colombo and Richmond College, Galle; Sri Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya, Panadura and Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda

B Division: 

  • Champions: (Boys) Bandaranayaka College, Gampaha; (Girls) Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda
  • Runners-Up: (Boys) Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala; (Girls) Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala
  • Second Runners-Up: (Boys) St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela and Sri Sumangala Boys’ College, Panadura; Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha and Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala

C Division:

  • Champions:  (Boys) Sumedha College, Gampaha; (Girls) Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda
  • Runners-Up: (Boys) Asian Grammar School, Gothatuwa; (Girls) Rippon Girls College, Galle

  • Second Runners-Up: (Boys) Central College, Badulla and Negombo South International School, Piliyandala; Asian Grammar School, Gothatuwa and St. Jones’ Girls School, Panadura
