Clifford Cup Rugby 2019

By Shamseer Jaleel

Police Sports Club will be all out to reach the final of the Clifford Cup Knock Out Rugby when they lock horns with Air Force in the first semi-final, which will be worked off at the Racecourse Rugby Grounds today.

Kick-off is scheduled at 4 pm.

Police demolished CR&FC’s hopes with a magnificent performance in their quarter-final encounter, while Air Force was lucky to move forward with a walkover from Kandy, as the latter pulled out of the tournament.

Cops last made the Clifford Cup final 4 years ago, but they were beaten by Kandy SC in the final encounter in the Hills. Cops will expect great performances from Sachith Silva, Wageesha and Janith Chandimal, while Air Force will depend deeply on Seelaratne and Iddamalgoda.

Police last won the Clifford Cup in 1991, while Air Force have only won once, in 1986. On form, the Cops should walk in to the final encounter on 24 March.
