Madawala Madina National School will play the first rugby encounter in their 86-year-old school history when they host Sarasavi Uyana School in Madawala today. Kickoff is scheduled for 3.30 p.m.

Madawala School held a press briefing at their school yesterday with the presence of their sponsors and officials. Their main sponsor is an alumni of the school Faizal Amardeen, who lives in Australia.  Speaking to Daily FT he said, "From childhood I wanted Madawala to play rugby. Unfortunately, during our time this sport was not there. I want the lads to get the maximum exposure to the world and make friends all over the country wherever they play. We have started Under 12 and Under 14 at present, but will look to expand the program to Under 16 later on.”

He thanked the jersey sponsors UDS Super and the school authorities for their continued support towards rugby at Madawala Madina. Amardeen ended by thanking the hardworking committee and the coaching staff of the school rugby outfit.
