MCA ‘G’ Division league tournament reaches quarterfinal stage

Amana Takaful Insurance, MAS Linea Aqua, Fairfirst Insurance, Bimputh Finance, Mobitel, Nor Lanka, Deutsche Bank AG and Sri Lanka Telecom advanced to the quarterfinals of the MCA ‘G’ Division 25-over league tournament for the 8th Stafford Motor Ltd. Honda Trophy, after the pre-quarterfinals matches concluded on 18 and 19 August.

Four of the league stage group leaders - Asiri Hospitals (‘A’ Group), Interpharm (‘E’ Group), SriLankan Airlines (‘F’ Division) and Coats Thread (‘G’ group) - got eliminated.

Migara Wickramasinghe (54 not out) was the match-winner for Amana Takaful Insurance in their game against Asiri Hospitals. 

Tharik Nasseen (3 for 25) and Krishan Weeraratne (3 for 30) bowled Mobitel to victory over Interpharm.

Good batting by Thushan Tissera (62 not out) and strong bowling from Kasun Jayasinghe (4 for 34) steered Nor Lanka to a win over SriLankan Airlines. 

Deutsche Bank’s medium pacers, Nilan de Silva ( 2 for 16), Niranjan Dabare (3 for 15) and Praveen Fernando (3 for 24), after restricting Coats Thread Lanka to 121/9 in 25 overs, went on to win comfortably.

MCA (morning): Amana Takaful Insurance beat Asiri Hospitals by five wickets: Asiri – 135 (24.4), Amana – 138/5 (23)

MCA (afternoon): MAS Linea Aqua beat Waters Edge by 52 runs; MAS Linea – 126 (25), Waters Edge – 74 (20.2) 

Thurstan (morning): Fairfirst Insurance beat Pearson Lanka by eight wickets; Pearson’s – 149/7 (25), Fairfirst – 150/2 (18.2)

Thurstan (afternoon): Bimputh Finance beat Access Group by three runs; Bimputh - 125 (22.1), Access – 122/7 (25)

MCA (morning): Mobitel beat Interpharm by 15 runs; Mobitel – 140/6 (26), Interpharm – 125 (23.3)

MCA (afternoon): Nor Lanka beat SriLankan Airlines by 19 runs; Nor Lanka – 199/8 (25), SriLankan – 180 (23.5)

Darley Road (morning): Deutsche Bank AG beat Coats Thread by six wickets; Coats – 121/9 (25), Deutsche Bank – 122/4 (21.3)

Darley Road (afternoon): Sri Lanka Telecom beat Allaris Lanka by 60 runs; SLT – 197/6 (25). Allaris – 137/6 (25)

The tournament’s quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, 26 August at the MCA with Amana Taka Insurance taking on MAS Linea Aqua (morning) and Fairfirst Insurance going up against Bimputh Finance in the afternoon. At Thurstan College, Mobitel will take on Nor Lanka (morning) and Deutsche Bank AG will clash with SL Telecom in the afternoon.
