Havies pulled off a nail-biting win over Navy SC 25/18 at Havelock Park under lights.

At the short breather it was the Sailors who led 11/10.

Radeesha Seneviratne scored the visitors first try, plus two accurately-converted penalties, giving the visitors 11 points. Meanwhile, the Park club scored their two unconverted tries through Senal Deelaka and Shawket Lahir.

After the turnaround, Havies play-makers for this season Shawket Lahir and Ajmeer Fajudeen scored tries. Sailors replied through Gayan Wickremaratne’s try and Isuru Congahawatte’s conversion. Havies scored their fifth and last try through lanky Umesh Madushan. All five tries went unconverted by the hosts.

CH outplay Air Force

CH & FC 26 points

Air Force 17 points

CH and FC had to fire on all cylinders in order to beat the last-placed Air Force outfit 26/17 at the Race Course Grounds.

At the short breather it was CH who led 12/5.

Air Force scored first through Lahiru Udayanga. Usually an accurate place-kicker and skipper, Gayantha Iddamalgoda failed the conversion kick. Prasad Madushanka’s and Kushan Indunil’s tries plus Hirusha Sampath’s conversion took them to a safe 12/5 lead at the short breather.

After the turnaround, Prasad Madushanka scored his second with Sampath’s conversion and took CH further ahead at 19/5. Air Force replied through Udayanga’s second try while CH replied through former Trinity centre Ryan Weerakoon. Skipper Rohitha added the extra two points. There was time for one more Air Force try through Padmashanka Weerasinghe. Iddamalgoda added the extras.

Police continue winning streak

Police Sports Club continued their fine form in Club rugby when they outclassed Army SC 47/31 after leading 33/19 at the short breather.

The game was fast-paced as both sides displayed super open rugby and scores stood like a basketball encounter in the end.

Fijians Emosi Vunivosa (Police) and Tomasi Caqusa Ravouvou (Army) were outstanding, showing what rugby is all about. Both ran riot at Police Park.

Army drew first blood in the third minute of the game through Danuka Wijethilake. Then Police dominated the scoreboard. Emosi Vunivosa, who missed out some games for Police through injury, was in sparkling form, playing a major role in the Cops’ victory. 

Their first try was scored through Kasun Rajakaruna with Yohan Pieris adding the extras. Rastha Silva, Suranga Kasun scored their next two tries both initiated by Emosi the Fijian centre. Army hit back through their Fijian Tomasi. Primesh try took the Police lead further ahead to 26/12. One more try by each team through Ashan Bandara (Army) and Rasith Silva (Police) took both teams to the short breather with the Cops leading 33/19.

Tomasi scored soon after for the Solders. Police scored their last two tries through Rasith Silva and winger Vageesha Weerasinghe, while Army scored their try through Ashan Bandara.
