Rohan to speak at ASC in New Delhi

The Asian Security Conference (ASC) is a major calendar event of the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi which is organised in early spring each year. Since 1999 when the conference was first held, it has become an important forum for debating issues relating to Asian Security. The ASC provides an opportunity for policymakers, scholars and security analysts, both from India and abroad, to share their views on the security challenges facing the continent.

Shippers’ Academy Colombo CEO Rohan Masakorala will speak on derived demand for energy, food, raw materials, semi-finished and finished merchandise. Coastal passenger shipping is bound to increase many folds over the next three decades in line with economic and population growth of the world. 

As such, seaborne transportation and sea lanes of communication are vital and strategic interest to sustain supply chains and to provide competitive logistics for countries to be a party to international trade. Securing such sea-lanes and strategic distribution nodes are important to all countries to ensure domestic and international economic growth without hindrance. In this scenario, the Indian Ocean is identified as a key player in maritime activities and transportation.

The contemporary strategic context is increasingly defined by the rapid growth of major Asian economies and the rapidly increasing interest the major powers are evincing in the region. It has also resulted in a perceptible shift in power to the Asian continent. 

The ASC serves as the best available vehicle in the Asian region for developing and channelling astute and effective public policy on defence and security. It is also regarded as an important academic platform for scholars to discuss new ideas and theories.

The conference will be held from 25 to 28 March at the Institute of Defense Studies and Analysis in New Delhi, India.
