Perfect vision is key in development of Eastern Container Terminal: Sagala

The completion of the next phase of the Eastern Container Terminal (ECT), the evolution of the Galle, Trincomalee and KKS Ports, and enabling the smart port technology at the Colombo Port, are the basic priorities which leads the progress of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in its immensely dedicated development procedure, Chief of the Prime Minister’s Staff and Ports, Shipping, and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka said. 

He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony held at the Mahapola Ports & Maritime Academy, to commemorate trainees who completed the Diploma in Port Operational Management.

Minister Ratnayaka, who further expressed his views at this occasion, said that the Mahapola Ports & Maritime Academy found by the late Lalith Athulathmudali has already begun to yield the best of its substantial outcomes now. “Moreover, I prefer to work towards the attainment of the vision practiced by the late Minister Athulathmudali via considering SLPA, its stakeholders, and the country as precious assets to preserve,” Minister Ratnayaka added. “Further, after my appointment as the Minister of Ports, I had to make the decisions on the next phase of the ECT terminal, and I was able to decide it in a manner that will precipitate positive results to the country. Therefore I can assure you that I am dedicated to the betterment of your institution and the country,” Minister Ratnayaka remarked.

Minister Sagala Ratnayaka noted that well trained, skilful and qualified professionals are the best resources of an institution which leads in the achievement of organisational goals with no substitute. Furthermore, Minister Ratnayaka thanked all the employees who contributed to raise the rank of the Colombo Port in international categorisations.

The Diploma in Port Operational Management conducted by the Mahapola Ports & Maritime Academy is a two-and-a-half year course. At this occasion, 40 trainees who completed the Port Operational Management Diploma successfully, were conferred certificates by the Minister.  SLPA Chairman Kavan Ratnayaka, Managing Director Captain Athula Hewavitharana, Additional Managing Director Upali de Zoysa, and a group of high profile officials and employees were also present at this occasion.
