Hutchison’s new Mexico terminal starts operations

Mexico’s new Specialised Container Terminal (TEC) built and operated by Hutchison Ports-Icave in the new port of Veracruz started operations recently.

The start of operations were marked with the arrival of the CMA CGM 6,500 TEU White Shark box ship on the Gulf of Mexico and Europe trade.

“This is a great day for the country, for Veracruz and for Hutchison Ports, the entire port community, importers and exporters deserved to have such a modern infrastructure as we have today,” Hutchison-Icave Mexico and Latin America Executive Director Jorge Lecona says.

Lecona says that, besides being the newest infrastructure in Mexico’s entire port system, TEC Vera Cruz will be the most technologically advanced terminal where customers can count on block chain and artificial intelligence, among other advances. Hutchison-Icave has invested $ 450 m in the new terminal.

Port Administration Integral (API) Veracruz General Director Miguel Ángel Yánez Monroy explains that the construction of the other four new terminals continues: liquids and hydrocarbons – which should be operating at the end of the year, agricultural bulk, minerals and general cargo.

The total area of the extension for the new port of Vera Cruz that includes ICAVE-TEC and the four specialised terminals is 1,113 hectares of which 626 ha are located on land and 487 ha in water, doubling the size of the current port consisting of 554 ha land-sea.
