Cyber crime and IT security a growing threat to the maritime industry

In keeping with its main aims of knowledge sharing and education, WISTA organised a breakfast forum to address the timely topic of “Cyber crime and IT security” which is a prime concern in the industry at present. 

The keynote speaker Layers 7 Director Sujit Christy delivered his speech on cyber security and how the maritime industry is exposed and the risk factors. Afterwards a panel discussion was held with the imminent panellists Sri Lanka CERT/ICC CEO Lal Dias, ICTA Director/Legal Advisor Jayantha Fernando, Sri Lanka Customs Deputy Director – ICT Directorate Sudaththa Silva, CASA Chairman – Documentation and IT Committee Chrishantha Fernando, which was moderated by Expo Freight Ltd. Chief Information Officer Ruwanthi Fernando.



The specialists in the trade shared useful insight regarding the precautionary measures against this modern day pirates to maritime industry which is relevant to both sea going ships and shore based companies.   

ICTA Director/Legal Advisor Jayantha Fernando, along with the other panellists and audience were impressed with the lead WISTA Sri Lanka has taken in discussing this timely topic as it has created a platform to continue discussions on the topic and create a much needed awareness.
