Sripalie Contractors Ltd. was felicitated with two prestigious awards at the National Business Excellence Award 2019 (NBEA), hosted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL).

This time, Sripalie Contractors tops in the Construction Industry walking away with Gold Award (Construction Sector) and first-time ever, Sripalie Contractors emerges the First Runner-Up in Large category at the 16th edition of 

The prestigious NBEA 2019 organised by National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. The awards were presented at a gala ceremony held on 13 December at Hotel Hilton. The National Business Excellence Awards is an annual award competition conducted by the NCCSL with a view to recognising the business enterprises, that display Business excellence as well as in each pillar of excellence.

Emerging as First Runner-Up (Large category) and Winner (Construction Sector), Sripalie Contractors showcased the capacity and strength to go further ahead in the journey of National Business Excellence Awards.

The NBEA is organised by the NCCSL annually to identify and recognise business enterprises that have demonstrated excellence in business while contributing to the economic progress of the country.  The NBEA follows a stringent evaluation process based on marks scored in six broader areas namely, Leadership, Corporate Governance, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Market Reach, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental Sustainability and Financial Strength. 

Further, it covers different sectors in Sri Lanka such as Agriculture and Plantation, Banking, Construction, Gem and Jewellery, Healthcare, Hospitality and Tourism, ICT Service, Insurance, Livestock and Fisheries, Non-Banking and Financial Services, Infrastructure and Utilities and Trading. The NBEA awards scheme has been an annual fixture in the Sri Lankan corporate calendar since its inception in 2004.

Speaking on the occasion, Sripalie Contractors Chairman/Managing Director Ruwan De Silva mentioned: “We are proud of the fact that our company has been recognised by one of the most prominent award schemes for businesses in the country. Further he pointed out that “in this year, it is immense pleasure to state that one of our building project (Ceylon Electricity Board Corporate Office Building of Distribution Division-4 at Council, Dehiwala) has been certified with GOLD AWARD in CIOB Green Building Certification and Sripalie Contractors here also awarded with Gold Award as a Business entity of adopting Green Concept”.

Further he pointed out that the overall image of the construction industry in Sri Lanka, have a negative image among the society compared with other industries. In such scenario, Sripalie Contractors was one of key identification to roll back the negative image of the industry. In the meantime, the company persistently do the value additions to the industry. This is the one of circumstance in where triumph winner in the Construction Industry and First Runner-Up in the large category. 

On behalf of success of the Construction Industry, the company have obstinately been proven the capabilities and strength since Business Management, financial, Leadership, Capacity Building, Social Responsibilities and Environmental concern etc. were being examined and evaluated with this award competition. Ruwan De Silva further pointed out that the he is personally happy about the company since Sripalie Contractors was able to be a benchmark in the construction industry of Sri Lanka.

Subsequently, the construction industry currently experiences a lot of problems such as payment delay from the clients, unfavourable economic and political culture, unfair treatment of consultants to contractor, labour shortage, lack of availability of new technology. Therefore all construction companies are affected and someone winning this type of award in national level, showcase the capacity to top at the industry means Sripalie Contractors did the job well. 

Eventually, he added further that this is not a destination of our success story of Sripalie Contractors but this is the persistent journey in order to make sure our position in the industry to be the number one construction company in Sri Lanka by being the partner of choice for the public and private sector. Likewise, exceeding of our excellence in pursuant of our achievements establish the position steady in the construction industry.
