AkzoNobel honours City School of Architecture students at Colour Awards 2018-2019

Colour Awards winners with City School of Architecture and AkzoNobel officials 

AkzoNobel Paints, producer of Dulux paints in Sri Lanka, recently held an awards ceremony for the winners of its AkzoNobel Colour Awards 2018-2019, at its Head Office in Narahenpita. This year marks the third consecutive edition of the annual competition held in partnership with the City School of Architecture (CSA), aimed at highlighting the future generation of industry talent being honed by the respected institute.

At an intimate ceremony to celebrate the students’ achievement, officials at AkzoNobel Sri Lanka honoured two batches of winners, each of whom received a cash prize. Keshan Perera, Vindya Seneviratna, Tasnim Ahlak and Mahisha Gunewardena, and Vaishini Ambikaibalan were presented with the first, second, third, and fourth prizes respectively for the 2018 competition, and Sanggavi Thomas, Ranukshi Seneviratne, Nithuni Kekulthotuwage and Anudi Samarasekera, and Dinal Karunaratne and Dilith Kumarasinghe were awarded with first, second, third, and fourth place titles for the AkzoNobel Colour Awards 2019. 

The contest was based on participants’ application of a series of lectures for a ‘Colour in Architecture’ module conducted by renowned architect and visiting lecturer Nela de Zoysa. All first-year architecture students were asked to prepare detailed written and practical assignments that would best channel their knowledge of colour implementation into specific real-world applications. Final module projects were presented to an external seven-member jury panel, which included the MD of AkzoNobel Paints, lecturers from CSA, as well as industry professionals.

“Each year we are increasingly impressed by the quality of work we receive from the students, and the winners in particular have expressed a remarkable degree of intuitiveness in the psychology and aesthetics of colour,” commented AkzoNobel Sri Lanka Managing Director Wasantha Heenatigala. “Through our valuable relationship with CSA, we hope to continue to motivate the next generation of architects to challenge the boundaries of colour in making our living spaces more liveable and inspiring.”
