A thank you to Royal Bakery

The prolonged curfew has kept the public indoors with little or no access to shops to purchase daily requirements to maintain families, especially food for daily consumption. With the large number of curfew breakers arrested, no one would like to take a chance to walk around on the streets for fear of arrest.  

Wellawatte is a highly populated town and with most shops closed, the public has no choice but to ration and consume their stored provisions giving thought to a balanced dietary intake. Although rice is our staple food, most people go for bakery items especially at breakfast time due to the ease and convenience of the household. 

The good old Royal Bakery of Wellawatte took the unusual initiative to deliver bakery items to the doorstep of the residents of Wellawatte from the morning of 27 March. 

Making a phone order the previous evening, my house bell was rung by a tuk tuk driver at 7:30 a.m. that morning to bring home my order of bread and tea buns. My order covered the requirements of a few in my neighbourhood and all people including the kids were so happy to have a tea bun for breakfast. Although tea buns are not their usual taste, at a time of crisis the love to eat this type of food during this scarcity was so much looked forward to. 

The Royal Bakery in Wellawatte or RB as better known has a history of bread making in Wellawatte at the present location since 1906. I am well aware that their products are all prepared in a sterile and hygienic environment by trained bakery staff under strict supervision to ensure that all baked goods are fresh and of the finest quality. 

I take this opportunity to thank the Chairman of RB, Bandula Perera, and his team for his thoughtfulness in catering to his customers of Wellawatte by introducing home deliveries at this time of crisis. Thank you Mr. Perera, you really love the people who adore your products.
