Prime Minister

Ranil Wickremesinghe

“In Sri Lanka, since time immemorial, we dignified water and handled it with compliment, so as to consider water supply, management and conservation with great care.

“The reputation our ancestors claimed for the most innovative and expedient methods of irrigation must be continued in the way of an extended procedure to ensure sustainable management of water.

“Access to safe water and sustainable management are among the Sustainable Development Goals, as is declared by the United Nations. We, as a country working towards the achievement of SDGs, are liable to conserve our sources of water, to ensure that everybody has access to clean water today and tomorrow.

“This year’s World Water Day theme, “Leave no one behind” explains the peril faced by people in most parts of the world, and it is our utmost responsibility to save water and include everyone in our efforts to make sure that they have access to clean water.”
